PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
